Hype justified by hyperbolic inaccurate arguments. Christian Pulisic
I have retired from attacking Christian Pulisic as a player. I have been very clear about my opinion. Honestly, I desperately want him to be the player that many fans think he is. This editorials intentions is to address the ridiculous declarations made in defense of #10 talent.
“on pace to shatter the USMNT goal record” Kris Cardenas.
Ok, lets evaluate. Currently the leading scorers on the National team is a tie between Dempsey and Donavan. However Dempsey was more prolific with 57 goals in 141 appearances; an avg of .40 goals per game. Pulisic is currently at 25 goals in 60 appearances; an avg of .41 goals per game. So yes statistically he is on pace to surpass Dempsey, but BARELY, .41 goals a game in 141 appearances doesn’t even reach 58 goals. Furthermore, after 60 games on the USMNT Dempsey was avg .52 goals per game. “Shatter the record” statistically nonsensical.
“Pulisic has been a starter on 3 major prestigious soccer clubs in Europe....and has started for all of them!“ Osmar
REALLY? Lets go to the tape.
2015-2016 First year at Dortmund. Dortmund played 34 games.
Pulisic started in 4, and was 20th on the squad in minutes played.
2016-2017 Dortmund 34 game season
Pulisic started in 15, and was 11th in minutes played.
2017-2018 Dortmund, his most influential club season
Pulisic started in 27, and was 3rd on the squad in minutes played.
Pulisic started in 9, and was 16th on the squad in minutes played.
Pulisic started in 9 , and was 11th on the squad in minutes played.
Pulisic started in 19, and was 12th on the squad in minutes played.
Pulisic started in 13, and was 17th on the squad in minutes played.
Pulisic started in 8, and was 21st on the squad in minutes played.
That is two prestigious clubs, he hasn’t started in any game for AC Milan. So “3 prestigious clubs” is factually incorrect. Furthermore, objectively he has only been a starter for a prestigious club once, and he was immediately demoted to a sparing contributor. Also, it is important to note that Pulisic was a Dortmund youth league investment so his stint with Dortmund was due to investment not an overwhelming show of talent.
Regardless, opinions are worth nothing, including mine; but flippantly embellishing his accomplishments with objectively false statements to argue your perspective is intellectually lazy or worse dishonest.
