The gravitational athlete

In the historical realm of team sports, there have been many great athletic phenoms, but only a chosen few create their own gravitational pull. The gravitational athlete is a unicorn that generates uncommon attention because of their unique and individual skill set. In my opinion, the three greatest gravitational players I have ever seen are, Lionel Messi, Tyreek Hill & Carli Lloyd.

Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi with his diminutive stature isn’t your classical athletic phenom. However, his dominance over the ball, his precision passing, and his elite vision creates a nightmare scenario for opposing defenses. Lionel Messi is the ultimate team soccer player, because the attention that he generates opens up the game for all of his teammates. Furthermore, his game translates as he ages because it is predicated on precision, and balance, and not elite athleticism. Lionel Messi is a marvel when you consider how he may be the greatest soccer player of all time while not possessing elite physical traits.

Tyreek Hill

When people discuss Tyreek Hill they initially marvel at his speed, he is nicknamed the cheetah for a reason. However, Tyreek Hill’s greatness is less about his speed than it is about his aggressive lateral mobility. Tyreek Hill generates ungodly attention because of his insane ability to change direction, compounded by his elite explosion it creates an athlete that generates a never before seen gravitational pull from NFL defenders.

Carli Lloyd

Carli Lloyd is my favorite American athlete to represent my country, her gravitational pool is different from Messi or Hill. Messi generates his pull through precision, Hill accomplishes his influence through mobility, but Lloyd created her prestige through pure unadulterated gumption. Carli Lloyd was a force of nature that opponents were terrified of because she had the courage to try anything, to push the boundaries. Corli Lloyd might be one of the most decorated American athletes of all time, but in my opinion, she was undoubtedly the undisputed alpha in United States team history.
