Jerome Baker Deserves Perspective.
Listen, I get a hard on for steadily available players. I feel that the skill set of rock solid consistency is just as rare as the special individual talent. I would argue that the talent to be a touch stone reliable player is in its own way a manifestation of elite athleticism. Obviously, I am eluding to Jerome Baker who in his 5 year career HAS NEVER MISSED A GAME. Furthermore, he has lead the Miami Dolphins in combined tackles every year of his career except last year, where the teams leading tackler broke the NFL record for tackles at his position (DT Chris Wilkins). I realize that all of this may seem as circumstantial evidence of what I feel is a grossly underrated, or dare I say, disrespected talent. So, I would like to present some historical perspective.
Baker the Tackler
When you focus on the top 50 tackles in Miami Dolphins history, Jerome Bakers career influence might surprise you. For Example:
- Jerome Baker is 5th all time in Dolphin History in combined tackles., despite having the least game appearance in the top 8 list.
- Jerome Baker is second all time in Dolphin history in tackles per game, Behind only the great #54.
Baker the pass rusher and play maker.
- Jerome Baker is 6th all time in Dolphin history in SK%, and he is the first ILB on that list.
- Jerome Baker is 3rd all time in Dolphin History in sack yards lost due to sacks, a statistical absurdity considering he ranks 16th in team history in total sacks.
- Jerome Baker is 5th all time in Dolphin History in forced Fumbles and the only one in the top 5 with less than 140 game appearances, he is currently at 82 games.
Now that a certain perspective has been pointed out for the purpose of emphasis, I admire Baker simply because he is currently the Miami Dolphins Iron Man, and that deserves more respect than people are willing to consider.
Jerome Baker is the fastest defensive player in Dolphin History to play in 80 games.
