Time to recognize the greatness of #94. Christian Wilkins

Anybody that knows me is acutely aware that I LOVE INTERIOR DEFENSIVE PLAYERS!! I gravitate my focus towards interior defenders. My favorite Dolphin of all time is an interior defensive lineman (#95 Tim Bowens), my favorite player currently is also an interior defensive player (#99 Aaron Donald). My current Miami Dolphin man crush is a Defensive lineman (#92 Zach Sieler). However, objective observation leads me to conclude that #94 has orchestrated the greatest Defensive Interior performance in franchise history..

2019

Wilkins was one of my favorite players in the 2019 draft class. It is misguided to measure Wilkins strictly through combine metrics, because Wilkins is a unique athlete. At 6’4” 310 pounds, he is by far the most flexible, balanced, and laterally explosive player at that size I have ever seen. His unique athleticism allows him to be elite at three interior defensive lineman characteristics.

1. Availability

Wilkins is NEVER injured, he led all Defensive lineman in snaps this year, and he has never been an injury inactive in his whole career.

2. Gap Principles

Wilkins is the most balanced athlete in 99% of his matchups. Guards and Centers have to over commit themselves just to stay in front of Wilkins, which usually leads to an unstable approach. Wilkins easily leverages this advantage to maintain disciplined principles. It is usually understated and never appreciated but it results in winning DT play.

3. Prodigious Tackler

I am not surprised that #94 broke the DT record for single season tackles, His tackling prowess is primarily the reason I loved him as a prospect. His lateral mobility, his uncommon flexibility, and his atypical discipline, results in an interior player that simply doesn’t miss tackles and is always in position to make a tackle.

Regardless of the outcome of this Miami Dolphin season. I feel it is important to point out Wilkins. This season has been a tad disappointing, however, in my opinion, it has produced two NFL All Pro Performances; Tyreek Hill and Christian Wilkins.
